"On the second day following the attack, the radio talk shows were filled with discussions speculating on the 'significance' of this unbelievable event of human suffering and aggression. Topics ranged from political theory to descriptions from 'Revelations' and ancient prophesy. When I wanted to buy a book of Nostrodamus's prophecies to see what people were talking about, I found that in my town, Brattleboro, Vermont, all five bookstores were sold out of books on Nostrodamus, and all had been taken out of the library. I returned home and made this painting. It was a moment when events seemed so inexplicable and extraordinary that people were seeking any explanation to help to understand the unimaginable. I entitled it 'Prophesies of Nostrodamus'".
