ARTIST'S COMMENTARY

I capped the group of forested mountains off with this diptych. A bit of golden pasture came in again, this time setting off the expansive view beyond.
The view comes from the "Inca Trail", which I have hiked on two occaisions. This vista was seen from the ruined structure of a milatary look-out position, a small structure comanding a view of any approaching armies, protecting the route from Cuzco to Machu Picchu from the Spanish, who never found Machu Picchu.
In fact, it is believed that Machu Picchu was built and lived in by surviving Incans during post-conquest times.
In 194-, when it was located by Hiram Bingham, it had been abandoned for centuries.
