Seen in the evening as the light faded, this view was witnessed just north of the Columbian border with Ecuador.
When I did arrive at the border, I was forced to stay for the night, as the border closes there at 5:00 pm, and my bus did not make it in time to cross that day.
Searching for a room at that late hour, I found myself wandering down backstreets and up alleys. At the end of a dark alley I was cornered by two soldiers who had followed me at a distance from the bus station. I'm quite sure were about to rob me. I banged louder on the hotel door, and luckily it opened as they began to walk up to me, and I slipped into the small, back alley hotel lobby at just the right moment, leaving the two soldiers in the alley, surprised and unsuccessful.
